Incremental Refresh for Non-Folding Data Sources in Power BI

Ever been told that incremental refresh in Power BI doesn't work with non-folding data sources? 🤔

In my latest tutorial, I demonstrate step-by-step how to implement incremental refresh with Excel files stored in SharePoint.

Why should you care about incremental refresh?

  • Cut refresh times by 50% or more as your dataset grows

  • Reduce dataset processing costs

  • No need to migrate your Excel data to a database

The secret lies in properly configuring your file naming conventions and leveraging a combination of SharePoint.Contents (which is significantly faster than standard functions) along with some clever parameter handling. And despite Power BI reporting it cannot confirm folding, it would WORK.

I've even included solutions for the "There weren't enough elements in the enumeration to complete the operation" error that commonly occurs when implementing this approach.
